چکیده

late spring frost damage is the main factor that limits apricot production in iran.this research was aimed to evaluate the damage of freezing in two apricot cultivarflowers: ʽʽnasiriʼʼ and ʽʽnori-dirrasʼʼ during spring 2011. reproductive organs of thesecultivars at two phenological stages, popcorn and full bloom, were transferred toprogrammable freezer with temperature touch down from 5°c to -10°c. temperaturewere detected by the mean of thermocouple and recorded by a data logger connected toa pc computer. according to the results, differences between two cultivars andinteraction of cultivar and phenological stages were not significant, whereas the effectof phenological stage was significant. the lowest supercooling temperature was -6.1°cand recorded at full bloom stage in ʽʽnori-dirrasʼʼ. more than 30% of ʽʽnori-dirrasʼʼbuds and more than 60% of its flowers showed less supercooling than -5°c. accordingto this result, ʽʽnori-dirrasʼʼ showed lower supercooling temperature than ʽʽnasiriʼʼ.

Supercooling behavior in aqueous solutions.

Using the emulsion method, we measured the homogeneous nucleation temperature depression, DeltaT(f,hom), and equilibrium melting points depression, DeltaT(m), of various aqueous solutions and then calculated lambda for each solute using the linear relationship DeltaT(f,hom) = lambdaDeltaT(m). We defined lambda as the solute-specific supercooling capacity and examined its correlation with some k...

Agency Theory: Integration or a Thousand Flowers?

One of the challenges in the paper by Rose et al. (2005) is the need to build integrative theories to address the interweaving of machine and human agency. I would like to suggest, alternatively, that we should encourage a thousand theoretical flowers to bloom. I illustrate my argument using research on GIS in India.

Changes in Bacterial Composition of Zucchini Flowers Exposed to Refrigeration Temperatures

Microbial spoilage is one of the main factors affecting the quality of fresh fruits and vegetables, leading to off-flavor, fermented aroma, and tissue decay. The knowledge of microbial growth kinetics is essential for estimating a correct risk assessment associated with consuming raw vegetables and better managing the development of spoilage microorganisms. This study shows, for the first time,...

Supercooling Points of Murgantia histrionica (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) and Field Mortality in the Mid-Atlantic United States Following Lethal Low Temperatures.

The harlequin bug, Murgantia histrionica (Hahn), is a serious pest of brassicaceous vegetables in southern North America. While this insect is limited in its northern range of North America, presumably by severe cold winter temperatures, specific information on its cold hardiness remains unknown. We determined the supercooling points (SCPs) for Maryland and Virginia adult populations and found ...
